Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Juneau, Alaska, on a cool morning.

Time

Taken late morning, this Steller Sea Lion was cruising the shore looking for food.

Lighting

Lighting was provided by nature, it was overcast and calm, which allowed for smooth reflective water.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D800E and Nikkor 300mm f2.8, handheld.

Inspiration

Nature inspires me! I enjoy sharing moments with wildlife when there is nobody else around, both the animal and I get to spend a few special moments together.

Editing

Post processing was done in Lightroom, and simple exposure and cropping adjustments, no major changes.

In my camera bag

Today I carry a Nikon D850 and usually always have multiple lenses in my bag. Nikki lenses - 300mm f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 14-24 f2.8. I also have the Nikkor 105 micro f2.8, 85mm f1.4, and the 200-500 f4.5-5.6

Feedback

Fundamentals are extremely important along with patience and planning. Also, hard work, and practice. Photography is not just about equipment, it’s a learning process.
