Location
This shot was taken while on my trip to New York City (NYC).Time
I took the NYC tour on the hop-on-hop-off open-air bus. This magnificent cathedral is one of the designated stops. The architecture is breathtaking. I shot this after my visit to the building at around 4 PM EST.Lighting
When I took the shot, it was an hour or two before the sunset. I had the opportunity to use the natural light for this.Equipment
This was shot in 2013. At that time, I was shooting using Canon T2i. This is a handheld shot. This was shot at 18 mm using a standard kit lens - 18-55mm.Inspiration
I love shooting architecture. The cathedral is huge and the engravings on the building are an absolute work of art. Each dome, the carvings is worth to look at.Editing
To pop up the image, I decided to process this as an HDR image. It helped to balance our over and underexposed elements in the picture. There were also few people standing on the stairs and I had to use content-aware to take them out of the frame. In my camera bag
I am currently shooting using Nikon Z7. I am using a NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S, a wide-angle (dx 10-24), Prime (50mm f/1.4), and a zoom (fx 70-300) for now.Feedback
In a shot like this, it is a bit of both luck and technique. Wait for the right moment, breathe, and take the shot. Also during HDR processing, care should be taken to avoid overprocessing.
