The POV in this photo is great. I like how you thought to take the picture from down low. The shadowy reflections are eye catching.

Thank you Juliequesnel, I aimed for the view to make it stand out, the fires around the town added to the drama behind the image. Thanks for viewing.

Location
On the Ceduna foreshore, Ceduna, South Australia. The bush fires in the area caused the unusual colouring. Due to the smoke from several large fires around the town, a large number of local residents were out on the pier to view the spectacle.Time
The sun was setting around 6.30pm. Though there were no clouds and very little wind, the smoke caused a change in the sky colour that afternoon.Lighting
As the smoke affected the sky colour, and the sun was setting. I chose to silhouette the pier and those standing on it. At times lighting is as much about what it doesn't show, making the decision before releasing the shutter, determines where the subject is placed.Equipment
Canon 450D, 70-200mm L Lens, handheld. Due to the volume of people moving on and around the pier, using a tripod was impracticle. The shore line scattered with rocks, made the use of a tripod awkward here as well.Inspiration
The bush fires raging through the surrounding area, was blanketing the town with smoke. With almost no breeze, still water, and the sky colour. choosing the pier as the main subject was the obvious choice. Being able to silhouette the pier against the sky, using the colour combination helped to highlight the pier outline. Due to the position of the pier to the town centre, a crowd had arrived to witness the smoke filled sunset. Using the beach as the view point allowed me to show the crowd interest, and pier outline. All at once, showing the colour variation and pier framework pattern in an unusual manner.Editing
Very basic colour saturation, and a small amount of sharpening. In my camera bag
Canon 450D, 50mm lens, 18-55mm kit lens, 55-250mm kit lens, 70-200mm L Lens, Muse Lensbaby, assorted polarizing filters to suit. Tripod.Feedback
For this type of image, a strong subject draws the eye. Placing the subject in a position which gives a clear relationship of size. Using the light source in a way that creates a unique image. Choosing to use colour to reflect subject material, or silhouette is important to create image appeal. Try to show your subject as more than just an object in the image, it needs to have a relationship to the finished image. Using people in this image helped to give it a sense of something happening, rather than space filler. Think about using alternative angles to show your subject in unexpected views, up, down, each lends new qualities. Walk about, observe, then decide what/where looks best, then take your shot, don't follow the crowd. Have fun.
