Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a resort in Ixtapa, Mexico. I haven't done a lot of traveling yet, but my favorite photographs always happen to be from Mexico!

Time

This was taken at sunset. The sky was constantly changing colors. I was supposed to get ready for our dinner reservations and constantly had to run back to the balcony to take more photos, because the sky looked completely different than it had a minute ago.

Lighting

There's no light that compares to that of a beautiful sunset. Definitely do not need any extra, artificial lighting.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon t4i. No flash or fancy lenses. I prefer to keep things simple. Just me, the camera, and the subject.

Inspiration

I have been a sucker for sunsets for as long as I can remember. There is something so heavenly about them that I absolutely adore. If I could just take sunset photos everywhere, everyday...I would be ecstatic!

Editing

There was very minor post-processing done to the image, but I added a bit more contrast and it needed a teensy bit of brightening.

In my camera bag

I don't keep much in my bag at all. I'm kind of the opposite of a tool junkie. It takes me so long to get used to new equipment that I just stick with my 18-135 mm and take extra batteries.

Feedback

I don't know how much advice I can give since this was such a sudden moment that I didn't prepare for. I still feel like a beginner, so I do not feel like I should be dishing out any advice to people who are probably all more educated than I in photography. However, if you want gorgeous sunset photos, go to the coast and photograph the ocean at dusk. That is my happy place and I love being able to take part of it home with me. I guarantee it will be the same for anyone else.
