Standing on the edge of an old basalt lava flow barely above sea level, as waves came crashing up and over the brim. As first, this little sinkhole was mesmerizing to watch and the waves brought in new water and formed little waterfalls as the tide receded.⁣
⁣
As the sun dipped over the horizon, the gravitational pull caused the tide to rise higher and at a much quicker rate than expected. What was only ankle deep water the hour before, turned into sets of waves rolling in waste deep. This took me by surprise as I held onto my camera and tripod, trying to plant my feet and shift my weight to counter the strong force of the waves.⁣
⁣
The landscape photography dilemma kicked in. Do I bail and rush to safety? The sun was about to break through the clouds and the glow was incredible. Do I stay and capture the moment, or watch it pass by from a safe distance? I’ll let this photograph speak for my decision! ????
