Location
I took this photo in a village near where I live. As I have long term health problems, I don't get to travel about much, but I'm lucky to live in a lovely part of England. Not only that, I also keep an eye out all the time for any beauty in unexpected places, and I see all sorts of wonderful photo opportunities wherever I go.Time
This was taken in the early afternoonLighting
It was a lovely sunny day in Spring, so the blues and greens were particularly vibrantEquipment
Nikon D5100 with 70-300mm Nikkor telephoto lens, hand held as I find carrying a tripod or monopod tricky due to my arthritis and spine problems.Inspiration
I love all flowers, but I think irises are especially attractive not only for the colours but also the wonderful structures of the flowersEditing
Some cropping and contrast adjustmentIn my camera bag
I always carry some sort of camera wherever I go, and I tend to use my Nikon D5100 and telephoto lens most of the time, although I also have a Nikon J2 which is more compact and with a 10-30mm lens is useful on holidays or for more wide angle shots. I also have an Olympus TG-1 which is great for rainy days as it's waterproof! I rarely carry my tripod or monopod as I find them difficult to use due to my arthritis, I do have filters, and a macro LED light but to be honest, I haven't used them much as yet. I always, always have a spare battery and SD card, lens cloth.Feedback
Being relatively inexperienced and somewhat restricted by health issues, I am very much an opportunist so I'd recommend keeping your eyes open to everything around you, and expect the unexpected! I practise Mindful photography which means before I set out I try to put aside my 'wants' and just go out with an attitude of "Hello world, what are you going to show me today?" I always find I come home with some unexpected shots but they're often the best! (I tend to use aperture priority a lot too which allows me to react quickly to change from flowers to birds to insects)
