Location
This photo was taken on Henry Island in the San Juan Islands in Washington State. The deer beat a path across our property and we get to watch their morning and evening treks from the comfort of our cabin or from the beach, if they aren't trekking on the beach that day.Time
This was during their early morning breakfast trek in November and it was raining. This young one was born fairly late in the season and was soaked by the rain and by jumping through thoroughly wet salal and other undergrowth.Lighting
She had just come to the edge of a clearing so the forest was darker behind her and she was very nicely lighted by the grey early morning light from the front.Equipment
This was shot with my Canon Rebel T3i and 75-300mm lens.Inspiration
We both looked hungry and a bit plaintive because of the rain - I just felt like we were kindred spirits in that moment and wanted to be sure the moment was saved.Editing
Very little post-processing, just brightened the photo up a bit.In my camera bag
Canon T3i with standard, zoom, and macro lenses; short tripod; rain gear; weather and hiking, boating essentials.Feedback
The moment came unexpectedly and didn't last long - so always be ready when the perfect moment arrives.
