Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Venice, Italy.

Time

It was midday. There was not many people around because it was in the middle of January, but that one person caught my eye. This would be the best shot.

Lighting

The natural blue sky had my back. Good thing there were some clouds. Just plain old blue sky gets boring after a while.

Equipment

Camera: Canon 5D Mark II Lens: 16-35mm F/4L. No tripod, no flash.

Inspiration

I am from Canada. I was going overseas for the first time and photography was just starting to become a big part of my life. I took over 2000 photos. I wish I had taken more. Venice was a place I never thought I would visit. Venice is rich in history, so I wanted to capture it the way I saw it. I was using a 16-35mm F/4L lens. I wanted to capture everything.

Editing

Yes! Adobe Photoshop. I made all the buildings black and white while keeping the colour of the water for added contrast.

In my camera bag

The Canon 5D Mark II was my first professional camera. I recently sold it and purchased a 5D Mark IV. I have 2 5D Mark IV's. 16-35mm F/2.8L, 50mm F/1.2L, 100mm F/2.8L, Fisheye.

Feedback

I would say find your own style and run with it. Whether it is landscape, models, animals or flowers. Or your post-processing styles. Whatever you want the viewer to see through your eyes, that is how you should capture your audience.
