Location
This shot was taken on the Dolomites in Italy, in front of iconic Tre Cime peaks.Time
I remember that beautiful surise, it was late August, I woke up at 5AM from Rifugio Auronzo and after about 45min walk in the dark, an easy hike, I reached this amazing spot between Tre Cime and Cadini mountains.Lighting
I planned to shot from that spot, It is great for the sunrise beacuse the sun rises to the right, just in front of Tre Cime. In the sky there were small coulds so the colours were amazing!Equipment
I used Olympus gear, body OM-D E-M10 Mark II, lens 7-14mm f.2.8 PRO, tripod SIRUI T-005X.Inspiration
I never seen before that specific spot, just arrived I noted the shape of the rocks in the foreground and they inspired me to use the natural lines for a great composition.Editing
I developped this shot in Camera Raw and then in Photoshop, as my usual workflow. I used two shots, one overexposed for the foreground and one underexposed for recover the dynamic range of the sky. After blending them, I enhanced and corrected the contrasts, the light and the colours. In my camera bag
In my bag I've typically two Olympus bodyes, E-M10 Mark II and E-PL7, and two PRO lens, Zuiko 7-14mm f2.8 and 12-40mm f2.8. During last months I also started to shot with a full frame SONY A7RII with Tamron 17-28 f2.8 lens and both systems are always present now in my bag. I bring also filters HAIDA and HOYA, polarizers and ND1000 for long exposures, a tripod and sometimes also a gorillapod. It's a very compact and light gear, very good for hikes in the mountains.Feedback
That spot is very easy to reach from the parking, in my opinion the better time to shot is sunrise but also the sunset may be worth. As always I suggest to be there one hour before the sunrise or sunset to find a good composition, there are a lot of rocks with great shapes and lines so it is funny to explore the location and try different views.
