Behind The Lens

Location

Down by the Newcastle Harbor.

Time

I took this at dusk just as the sun went down.

Lighting

I wake sure to use light to shape my photos. For instance here; it's coming from a bit of a diagonal to the far west, and I shot South West. Capturing the back of unlit subjects creating their silhouettes.

Equipment

I used my ol faithful NikonD3100, a 18-55mm kit lens and no flash, and a tripod. 1/60 of a second and fstop/5.

Inspiration

I saw the potential in the landscape, I just love sunsets and the best time to shoot is golden hour or blue hour, in this case, it's blue hour.

Editing

I manipulated the colour and added the milkyway. I thought it would seem ethereal and it does.

In my camera bag

Now I keep my 10~20mm, 105 macro, a 50mm, 42~86mm zoom lens. Then I carry a flashlight and fairy lights just in case I'm shooting in the dark. I always carry a swiss army knife especially on the trails because they are life savers in case of emergency. I also carry my phone, a selfie stick, and snacks and water in case I'm out longer than expected.

Feedback

I would say you really have to be tapped into nature understand it as well as your camera, get used to where the buttons are so you can get the fleeting moment. Take a few photos and do the process of elimination. Make sure to have your grid lines on so you do less post work and potentially ruin it by cropping.
