Behind The Lens

Location

The was located about 50 metres off shore at South West Rocks in New South Whales Australia.

Time

It was late april and you could feel the winter breeze slowly kicking in. We were living and traveling in our van and pulled up not Half an Hour ealier. It was Midday so the sun felt warm enough to combat cool breeze.

Lighting

When shooting in the ocean you kind of just take what natural light you can get, just fortunate that the day was clear and golden.

Equipment

This was shot on my old Nikon D750, with the 24-70mm f2.7 lens (one of my all time favourites). All tucked away safley in my Aqua Tech Housing.

Inspiration

I draw all my inspiration from the everyday beauty I'm fourtunate enough to stuble across. On this day we pulled up to a little headland carpark after traveling for about 3 hours, the sight of these beautiful rock features peking above the waves made me gear up right away. I think that's why I loved traveling in a van, you never knew what you'd stumble across.

Editing

I almost always shoot RAW, and will do most, if not all, of my post-processing in lightroom and photoshop.

In my camera bag

It's changes alot since taking this photo, but here's the list. I shoot on a Fujifilm XT-2 with 18-55mm (kit lens but a beast), 55-200mm f3.5, 16mm f1.6, 35mm f2 and the 27mm f2.8. I also made the switch to Salty Surf Housings to protect my camera in the water.

Feedback

Be patient with yourself, it takes a long time and alot of trial and error to get comfitable in the water. Then eveen longer again to start finding your consistant style. But where better to try capture life than in the ocean right?
