Location
I made this photo during a travel to the Lofoten Island with two of my photography friends. In this town, called Henningsvaer we had our apartment.Time
We arose from our beds before the sun was rising to take the first tour through the town. The sun is rising quite late in the winter there, so it was not so difficult to get up in the morning. After that first tour we had our breakfast and then we where going to find other locations to photograph. This picture was take just after the sun was passing the horizon.Lighting
We had so much luck with the weather in this one week of our sty in the islands. We could take photos in the morning like here, on the day with a always a sun shining from a low angle and in the night with polar lights.Equipment
I used my Sony A7ii, a tripod of course for that long exposure (15 sec) and my Zeiss 24-70 mm lens.Inspiration
The greatest inspiration for that photo was the incredible light in the morning. As I mentioned we where on our feet every day in the early morning and the challenge was, to find the right composition for that light. I knew, the sun was coming up the the mountains before the reached the town. That would bring a good contrast of light in that picture. Knowing that leading lines make often the difference in a picture a found that gangplank an placed it on the left hand corner, so that the eye can follow into the picture with that light.Editing
I use Lightroom an Intensify CK for some subtle post processing. In my camera bag
I have in my bag my Sony A7ii, a Zeiss 24-70 mm lens, quite new a 100-400 mm Sony lens, a 90mm Sony lens and a 14mm Samyang lens. In most cases I´m carrying a tripod, sometimes my travel tripod my Manfrotto our a sturdier one my Manfrotto as well. I´m discovering the possibilities of flash lights and so I´m carrying sometimes three Yongnuo speedlights with me, a reflector with 30cm in diameter for some macros and all the things everybody carries with him.Feedback
The are two things in photography that make the difference. The one is the light. Very good photos are always taken in good light. And the other thing is the composition. Try to find out the right composition. Which ist the foreground, what is in the middle, what is the background? Is the horizon in the middle? Should the horizon be there? What is about the rule of thirds? Reflect all these things and always look for the better standpoint, for better light and for better location.
