Location
New York's Grand Central Terminal Main hall.Time
Early evening about 4:35pm in July.Lighting
Natural indirect light from the widows high up near the ceiling. This was taken in the summer time so the light is warm but still we are about 3.5-4 hours from sunset.Equipment
My Trusty Sony A-900 with a Sony 50mm 1.4 lens. I shot this handheld at ISO 400 f5.6 and 1/40Inspiration
I was on a tour of Grand Central Terminal. High up in the catwalk i heard a commotion below me and noticed the wedding party. I thought it was an interesting place for a wedding shoot in one of the busiest places in the world. I wanted to capture the Moment in an almost minimalistic way.Editing
So with this Photo there is a lot going on around the wedding party and so many bright colors from the clothing of the passers by I felt that converting this to Black and white would yeild the best result. With the image in Black and white the Couple, especially the brides dress, stands out among all the people in the terminal and that is what I wanted. I did the Post in Lightroom and Nik Silver effects. In my camera bag
The Kitchen sink LOL. It all depends on what I am preparing for. I shoot WIldlife and Nature mostly so what I carry for that type of shoot is different for the Urban Jungle. Any given time I will have my 24-70mm, a 70-200mm. This combination give you a lot of versatility. I am a Army Infantry Vet so having the best and right tools for the job out weight the weight factor for ME. I don't like missing shots so I usually will have at least two bodies. I always bring what I call a specialty prime lens so for street Photography its my nifty 50 and a Fisheye. Always have the pocket rocket for blowing the dust out and lens safe cloth. I am paranoid about extra batteries so I usually have 2-3 extras in my pocket. I shoot with large capacity SD cards but I always have a few spares just in case.Feedback
Keep your head on a Swivel.... Be aware of your surroundings and what's going on above and below you. This shot was an opurtunistic shot, right place at the right time kinda thing. Too often we are caught in tunnel vision or Looking for the obvious shots. Don't forget to look up and Down, Pan and tilt. Be quick, but precise. By the time I noticed the couple and cameras below me I had no idea how long they had been there or would stay so I had to act quickly. Stay calm check all your settings and fire away. Oh and don't forget to breathe.
