The softness of the focus surrounding the dogs really illustrates the sweet nature of the pups. Lovely!

Great background colors to blend in with the coat of your beautiful shelties. Congrats on being chosen as one of the pick photos of the week!

Gorgeous! Love the use of colour. And yes know the breed well. The coats on these boys are amazing.

Location
This photo was taken in a long ago abandoned stone quarry. It now serves as a mountain biking parcours on occasions, and as a photography location whenever I can make it there.Time
It was a nice autumn afternoon, and I wanted to capture some of the amazing autumn colors, which I was sure would go great with the dogs' coat color. I was almost afraid that we were too late, and all the light was already gone, but we made it just in time.Lighting
I was worried about the lighting, because the sun was coming from the left side. We had to position the dogs carefully, or one would always be in the shadow of the other one.Equipment
This picture was shot with a Canon EOS 6D, which I only got in August, and my favorite lens, a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM.Inspiration
I wanted to capture the colors and ambience of autumn, and find a nice place to put the dogs, King and Herbie, into the right light. It was important to me to find orange leaves to compliment their sable coat.Editing
This picture was developed from a RAW file in Lightroom. Other than adjusting the white balance, I added a light vignette and made sure the exposure on the dogs' faces was right. I wanted this to be a simple portrait, so I tried to keep the post-processing minimal. In my camera bag
My Canon EOS 6D and the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM prime lens are my favorite equipment to use. For action shots, I like to use a Canon EF 70-200mm 1:2.8 L USM, which actually used to be my favorite lens before I got the 85 mm prime lens. This is usually all of the equipment I use.Feedback
The hardest part of this shoot was finding a location that actually looked like autumn. Once you have such a location, everything should be relaxed. With dog shootings you can't always exactly plan what will happen, so I usually like to find a very diverse location. Have patience, bring (or have the owner bring) a lot of treats and toys, and if it doesn't work out the way you want it just roll with what the dogs offer - it might actually turn out better than what you had in mind!
