Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in my backyard in Millbrook, Alabama. I have woods all around my home. It had just rained and droplets were left with tiny reflections.

Time

This was taken in the afternoon with minimal sunlight.

Lighting

I prefer natural lighting to give a slight reflection but nothing too intense. The black and white and the reflections from the light gave a mysterious feel that takes the viewer into a calm place.

Equipment

This was taken with a Nikon D7100 and I a Sigma macro 105. No flash was used, just the sunlight, and it was dim.

Inspiration

The darkness of the leaves and the calming light gave it a beautiful and calming feel to it. Changing it to black and white kept is simple and mysterious.

Editing

I changed the photo to black and white and added some contrast in Lightroom. I added a little darkness to it to bring out the light in the drops.

In my camera bag

My D810 or D7100, a macro 105 lens, and a 150-500 Sigma zoom lens are my favorites. I usually shoot nature shots and these are the best to see up close to the tiny things, or far away to catch shots of birds and animals that I can't get close to. I like my 17-50 prime for street and landscape photos.

Feedback

After a rain, the raindrops give a beautiful reflection of light and make leaves and flowers really stand out. The sun is usually not too bright at that time and the photos are rich, and colorful. The water adds a decorative touch as well as a shine to bring out the natural beauty found in nature.
