The photo was taken in what I could probably class as my natural environment ... At a gig in a local venue that goes to great lengths to support live music, Uncle Toms Cabin in BlackpoolTime
This was probably early evening as it was a special event supported by many local bands to say thank you to Jo Jacklin for all her support of live musicLighting
The lighting was what you would typically expect of these smaller gigs. Quite harsh stage lights that you have absolutely no control over and absolutely no chance of using any sort of flash! That being said it is possible to capture some very emotive images.Equipment
This was shot with and Olympus OM-D E-M1 with the beautiful mZuiko 45mm f1.8Inspiration
I love to combine my two big passions, photography and music, but as I don't play the guitar that well I focus on the other. Taking pictures that capture the emotion of the musicians, the feelings of the audience and the atmosphere of the whole event, large or smallEditing
Due to not being in control of the stage lighting some post processing is almost always required. Be that black and white conversion under the harsh red lights or a little control of the highlights. I always try to keep it to an absolute minimum in order to maintain as much of the original feelings as possible. In my camera bag
For this type of shoot my bag will always have my OM-D, 17, 25, 45 and 75mm 1.8 mZuikos, I have yet to find anything that compares in terms of clarity, speed of focus and just out and out usability if this environment, and considering I have a full frame Canon that is high praiseFeedback
Persistence! Oh, and practise. Use spot metering, a high ISO, wide open aperture, shutter speed around 160 and, of course, continuos shooting!
