Location

The photo was taken near the Observatory Lodge near the Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica

Time

I think this was taken during the late morning hours in a shaded environment

Lighting

This shot was taken with a macro flash set up and using a handheld macro lens

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D800 camera, RICI flash set up and Nikon 105 macro lens

Inspiration

The colourful subject itself was the inspiration behind the image

Editing

I post process each image, which typically includes adjustment for white balance, exposure, tonality, and applying sharpness and noise reduction as well as appropriate cropping

In my camera bag

I usually have gear that suits my target subject for the day; full frame camera and short lenses for landscape and street photography and longer lenses for wildlife. When just out and about with anything goes, I travel with lenses ranging from 14 mm to 600 mm with both full frame and crop sensor camera bodies as well as the three Nikon teleconverters and at least one Gitzo tripod and the option to use ball head or gimbal head

Feedback

Travelling to Costa rica made this image possible, but similar images can be accomplished with a macro set up, tripod and flash with a variety of similar sized subjects whether they be frogs, butterflies...
