Location
This image was taken on my back garden. I have 2 house cats, and as such I occasionally let them out to get some fresh air and run around. We rarely get sunlight in the back garden due to the angle of the house, but sometimes during summer we're lucky to get a few strands of light, and this was one of those occasions!Time
This was taken at around 6pm on a warm summers day in EnglandLighting
The sun was behind and to the left of this shot, and the house was able to block it from directly reaching my lens, reducing any flare but making the lighting and colour very dynamicEquipment
A Canon 7d, with a 100-400mm Canon L lens, handheld!Inspiration
My little girl knows she's a good looker, and she can't help but flaunt her stuff around the house. Photos with my iPhone show off how stunning she is, and I wanted to bring this across on a larger scale image.Editing
Luckily with this image, it was almost exactly how I wanted it straight out of the camera. I did a very slight curve adjustment to add some contrast. In my camera bag
Many people seem to laugh at me for it, but I carry nearly everything I use in my bag at all times. It makes it extremely heavy and cumbersome, but it means I don't risk missing a shot. You'll usually find me with a Canon 7dmki, Canon 5dmkiii, Canon 100-400mm, Canon 17-40mm, Canon 24-105mm, Canon 60mm Macro and a Samyang 14mm. Plenty of batteries, a fair few memory cards and some Hitech filters with a Lee filter holder.Feedback
Ensure you get the light behind your subject but at an angle, and let lose. With cats they can be very unpredictable, so a high shutter rate can help to catch those unexpected moments when they start prancing about! In this instance, I had to let her run herself ragged before she calmed down enough to get the shot I was after, and even then I had to take several images to ensure she stood in the position I wanted. I guess my biggest advice would be just be patient for the right conditions and that one, perfect shot!
