Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in the CBD of Melbourne Australia

Time

Shot was taken at 3.32pm on 22 June 2013

Lighting

All natural Light on a sunny winters day (thank you Mother Nature)

Equipment

Shot with a Canon 60D Canon EFS 18-200mm set at 140MM F5.6 1/100 ISO 400 Spot metered

Inspiration

Lilly was a paid model at workshop after a studio session we decided to wonder around outside. The contrast of Lilys blonde hair and pale skin caught my eye against the dark brown bricks of a local church, As we were leaving the church i noticed the green foliage i thought this gave Lilly as softer look

Editing

The photograph has been cropped and clarity softened slightly

In my camera bag

2 Canon bodies 60D & 6 D Canon 24-105 L series lens, Canon 50mm 1.4,Canon 80-200 2.8 ( commonly called the drainpipe ) Cano 100-400 4.5-5.6 L , Canon 100mm 2.8 L macro , Canon 18-55mm fish eye L . Remote shutter releases, spare batteries Canon speed flash

Feedback

I dont think you can do much better than natural light ( my personal opinion) and whilst i believe that you should have a good idea of the shoot you want dont be afraid to deviate from the original idea as with this shot . Bokeh always tends to lift the subject . Try to catch the highlights move the subject around until you get the light highlighting the area you want .With Lilly it was the right side of her head and her ponytail . this will add some structure in the shot . When you are starting out record your camera settings this will be a helpful reference until you are confident with camera settings
