Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at Landsdowne Place in Ottawa, Ontario. I have two cameras with me, one behind on a tripod and one in my hands.Time
This was taken in early December, late in the evening so I could avoid the crowds. We didn't have much snow on the ground yet, but the pavement stones were still very cold!Lighting
This was all natural light from the Christmas sign shown in the image. I did a bit of a long exposure to make sure that I had enough light to edit with after the fact.Equipment
I shoot with Sony Alpha cameras. This was taken with my first body, the a7Rii full-frame. I use a mini-Manfroto tripod so that I can get low to the ground.Inspiration
I had been wandering around taking photos of the Christmas lights and the thought of just capturing the Christmas sign seemed a bit boring. So I places myself in the image and it ended up adding some cool perspective and depth to the imageEditing
I use Lightroom to tweak settings but I try to not manipulate images too much. That does often depend on client needs, but for myself, it's a fun challenge. In my camera bag
I use a LowePro Whistler 450w for when I have commercial shoots and the Everyday Bag from Peak Design for biking around the city capturing moments. I usually have my 70-200mm, 16-35mm or my favorite 24mm f/1.4. Most often I just take one lens to challenge myself in any given environment to see things differently.Feedback
Don't be afraid of the cold! Dress for colder than the weather in the winter and you won't have to worry about anything. Also, batteries. Bring extra batteries!
