I believe it was mid-day, maybe 3 pm.Lighting
It was a very bright day and the RAW file was a bit dull with lots of harsh shadows.Equipment
I was hand-held. I used a Nikon D3300 with a Nikon 35mm f1.8 lensInspiration
The area it is in on the island is great with lots of history. I took many pictures that day but this one was my favorite.Editing
Yes. I converted to B&W and dropped the exposure then re-lit the photo with LightroomIn my camera bag
I use a D300, D3300, 35mm f1.8G, 50mm f1.4G, and a Tamron 16-300mm F3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Macro. Breakthrough Photography 3 stop and 6 stop ND filters and their CPL.. I also use the X-Rite Color Checker Passport.Feedback
There is really no right or wrong way to capture images like this. Its what your artistic vision of it that counts. Shoot in RAW and become proficient with Lightroom and Photoshop/Paintshop Pro. From there, you can create whatever image you have in your mind.
