Location
The photo was taken at a natural lake called Lhota in the Central Bohemian region. I go there often because it's quiet and I have space to take similar photos.Time
I remember it was Sunday. In the morning, my friend and I went by bike to the lake, which is 32 kilometres away. The camera backpack on my back was quite heavy, but it was worth it. After playing beach volleyball all day, we went to the water to cool off and that's how this picture was created. It was taken on July 17, 2022, at exactly 4:54 in the afternoon.Lighting
I wanted everything to look natural and the scenery to have sufficient contrast. The sunshine was absolutely perfect that day, so it was just a matter of getting in the correct position and taking the photos. Everything else has already been arranged by the model and nature itself.Equipment
This photo was taken with my long-time friend Canon EOS 7D Mark II, which is great to work with. The lens was the amazing Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art, which produces really beautiful pictures. And then just my hands.Inspiration
I think at that moment I wanted to capture the freedom and free space in which the person himself is so small. Perhaps at that moment, I remembered frequent scenes from movies where nature surrounds man from all sides. I also wanted the photo to show the joy of the moment when one enjoys solitude and nature itself. It's hard to describe the moment, but I believe you know what I'm talking about.Editing
In this case, there was no need for any major interventions in the post-process. The photo is just cropped and I adjusted the exposure a bit to bring out the drama of the image. In my camera bag
Of course, my long-time companion mentioned above, the Canon EOS 7D Mark II, together with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art lens, with which I like to shoot most often, must not be missing in my backpack. It has amazing parameters and does an incredible job for the middle class. In addition, my friend at longer distances, the Tamron 18-400 mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD, which I use mainly when photographing sports matches, must not be missing. And finally, the spare basic Canon EF-S 18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, which has saved my skin more than once. This set is complemented by the necessary tripod and remote trigger for images with longer exposure times.Feedback
Don't be afraid to explore new places and people. Both often bring rewarding experiences that will awaken your inspiration and make you want to capture the moment. Explore the work of other photographers who have more experience and can show you how to think differently. If you can, shoot a lot and dare to experiment with the light, time and space you capture. You might not get perfect results right away, but that's what it's all about. About patience. About humility. About fleeting beauty. Even one beautiful photo out of a hundred can please not only you but also the people around because the captured beauty can last forever.
