Location
This photograph was taken in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland. It was situated near Grassmarket and up the steps of "The Vennel" and looking over to Edinburgh Castle.Time
This was at late afternoon wgicg was perfect for the soft light.Lighting
I usually aim to capture my photographs at specific times such as nearer to sunset to achieve the softest light.Equipment
I used the Sony A77ii along with the DT 16-50mm f/2.8 lens.Inspiration
I have been very interested in old architecture and seeing many images of the city Edinburgh inspired and motivated me to travel on the one hour train journey. I had in mind that I would try to capture Edinburgh's essence in one photo.Editing
Thanks to the natural light on the day the photo didn't need much post processing. In Lightroom I just tweaked shadows, highlights, contrast, a little. In my camera bag
I have my Sony A7, my old Zuiko lenses which are very sharp. Zuiko 24 f/2.8 Zuiko 50mm f/1.8 Zuiko 75_200mm f/4 These are lenses from the film era but they produce very detailed images and are very robust.Feedback
Try to photograph in the late afternoon just before sunset, the natural light will then do everything for you. My favourite time of light is Golden Hour, which I recommend very much as it brings out so much beautiful light, soft light, and then you have a photograph that will need very little post processing.
