You have given 2020 a positive swing that is really (nice) positive, a contribution to the Year 2020 Collection. As always, the competition will be tough, which, as an added consequence, makes the victory taste very sweet. Good luck and probably for the … time: Happy New Year and stay healthy in 2021!

It was foggy on Sunday morning - as so often, I went looking for the upper fog limit, which I luckily found on the Gehrenberg near Markdorf, close to the Lake Constance in Southern Germany. Of course it was planned to take a few atmospheric fog pictures, but when I saw the incredible autumn colors of the forest while flying overhead, the fog was forgotten...Time
I got to this place about half an hour before sunrise, the best time to take pictures of the dawn and sunrise. It was still a bit too dark to take pictures with the drone, so I had to waitLighting
For such pictures it is important that the sun does not shine, otherwise the contrasts will be too harsh and the shadows too dark. So I took this picture before sunriseEquipment
I took the picture with a dji Mavic 2 Pro, ISO 400, f/2.8Inspiration
It is a purely chance shot - while flying over the forest I saw the wonderful autumn colors and the path gave the picture an additional geometric componentEditing
Whenever possible, I take a series of exposures for drone recordings, which I then combine into an HDR recording in post-processing with the Aurora software. Fortunately, this image did not require any further processing other than a slight contrast adjustmentIn my camera bag
First and foremost, I photograph landscapes. I have two lenses in my backpack for this genre: the Canon EF 16-35mm f / 4L IS USM and the Canon EF 24-105mm f / 4L IS USM. Various ND and GND filters as well as a tripod are of course always included. If the way to the photo spot is not too long or too difficult, I also like to take the Tamron 70-300mm 1: 4-5.6 SP Di VC USM with me for detailed shots. Occasionally I do astrophotography with the Tamron SP 15-30mm f / 2.8 Di VC USD, but this thing is so heavy that it is only taken for that special occasion. My second big passion is wildlife photography. Here I have the Tamron SP 150-600mm F / 5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 (also very heavy and therefore not always in the rucksack) for the larger and more abrasive specimens and the Tamron SP 90mm 1: 2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD for the tiny ones I use all those lenses with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV My newest toy is a drone: the dji Mavic 2 pro for unusual perspectives, abstractions and a view over the fogFeedback
Recordings with drones always seem slightly abstract if you take a photo straight downwards. Due to the many bright colors, autumn is a great season for photographers anyway. So just combine both and research a few places for a promising drone flight in autumn
