The Basilica of St. Lawrence located in Asheville, North Carolina, features the largest unsupported dome in North America. There are no beams in the entire structure. Designed in the style of the Spanish Renaissance by architect Rafael Guastavino with R.S. Smith in 1905. The Guastavino System represents a unique treatment of ancient tile and mortar that has given the United States some of its most monumental spaces including Grant's Tomb, Grand Central Station and Carnegie Hall.
