Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the University of Utah Medical Center at the parking garage across from the helipad.

Time

This photo was taken late in the day with the sun back lighting the helicopter.

Lighting

Since it was a near sunset photo, I was of course using the sun as a natural light source.

Equipment

The most important part of the equipment I used was the tripod I didn't have. Since I didn't have a tripod with me, I used the edge of the top level of the parking garage across from the helipad.

Inspiration

I love helicopters, so I grabbed my camera and went up to the U of U to look at and photograph their helicopter. I stayed long enough to see the sun setting behind their Bell 430.

Editing

I don't like to do much to an image if I can help it. I grew up during the time of film, so I tried my best to get it right in the camera. However, I will usually adjust for brightness and contrast.

In my camera bag

I really don't keep a camera bag ready, since my photography interests change from time to time. For example, if I shoot something macro, then I have the Minolta extension bellows (a thrift store find) setup on my Sony A3000. For more general things it might be one of my Canons.
