Location
This was taken at a local park here in Melbourne, Australia. I have a passion for photographing Tween and Teenagers as it brings out my creativity and also enables them to help style a photo shoot around their personality. Most Teenagers and Tweens are very shy and inhibited when we commence the photo shoot but by the end they seem to blossom in front of the camera.Time
This was early afternoon in the middle of Winter.Lighting
I only shoot in natural light. I try to position my models to show catch-lights in their eyes.Equipment
My camera is Canon 5D Mark III and I use fixed lenses - 50mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8 (love the bokeh) and 135mm 1.2.Inspiration
I'm always looking at my surroundings for ways to frame my subjects. I noticed a gumtree (which is native to Australia) with low bearing branches and thought of the idea to place her holding the leaves around her face.Editing
Yes I use Camera Raw and certain purchased presets to give my images a film look. Basic crop, upped exposure and reduced the orange in the skin tone.In my camera bag
Back up Canon 5D Mark II camera and lots of memory cards (can never have enough). Tissues, lens cloths, hair pins, and safety pins.Feedback
Always look for ways to frame your subject. I like to shoot through plants, doorways, etc. Let your model contribute ideas as well as this makes them relax and enjoy the whole process.
