The Virginia Springbeauty or Eastern Springbeauty, depending on where you live, is a very small, early spring bloom found mostly in the Eastern United States.
Springbeauty blooms only last a day or two and measure 1 centimeter in diameter, or, slightly larger than a green pea.
The brown sheathes covering new blooms are about the size of a grain of rice.
This little beauty rises admist recently cut grass and new growth on a lawn in Greenville, Texas.

Really like the colors and DOF. I was surprised to see f5.6 at 55mm. The background must have been a good distance away.to get that bokeh or was it done in post processing? At f5.6 I usually use my 120-400mm to get good DOF.

You bring up a good point which I forgot to include in the info.
This little blossom was so small, there was no room for a long lens. I was lying prone in the grass, the lens was about 6 inches from the flower. I used a +4 close-up filter to get the magnification and DOF.
You'd be surprised at the treasures to be found with your nose in the grass :)

Thanks !
I usually don't get this close to my subjects, this one, seemed to beg to have it's photograph taken.
I appreciate your comments.
Cheers !
