After seeing a very similar photo, I set out to replicate what I had seen and create something a little more personal for myself. The setup, execution and final editing were all part of a learning curve as I had never tried to capture and image like this before.Time
I had planned on taking the photo earlier in the day but weather did not cooperate with me. While I would have preferred clear skies, I think the fact that it was overcast gives it a bit more of a sense of urgency. I had to settle for somewhere between 9 and 10am.Lighting
There was no lighting setup for this and no flash involved. The diffused light from the overcast skies did all the work for me and helped accent the highlights within the car and the black interior. It was just enough to see what was going on inside the car without distracting the viewer from the scene outside the windshield.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D610 mounted on a tripod that was secured in the back seat by wedging 2 legs down between the seat cushions and then using the seatbelts as added security and stabilization. Using a slower shutter speed while moving on roads that were far from smooth was a challenge but in the end I finally captured what I set out to do.Inspiration
I remember seeing a similar style image right here on Viewbug and it immediately had me wondering how the photographer had captured the image. Most of my inspiration comes from other images and I like to test myself to see if I can recreate similar images. These tests are what continue to help me improve upon my skills.Editing
Post processing was done in LR and mainly consisted of bringing up some of the shadow and minor color correction. In my camera bag
I recently traded in all my camera equipment and changed over to mirrorless from DSLR. While the convenience of having a very small, lightweight bag is great, I know it is only a matter of time before I will need a bigger one to accommodate more and more lenses. Besides my Sony A7iii and 2 lenses, I also have my Mavic Pro 2 drone and a GoPro that I always take with me for when images my require a different perspective.Feedback
The majority of fellow photographers I know got into it for the fun of capturing and sharing images with others. Keep it fun. Experiment. There will always be a learning curve but learn it on your own. Videos and how to's are great but trial and error and then finally capturing exactly what you set out to do are far, far more rewarding. My only suggestion for trying to capture an image like this... Intervalometer! Know how to use your cameras intervalometer!
