This is a ladybird that has been taken over by a parasitic wasp called Dinocampus Coccinellae. The wasp larva in the nest like cocoon under the ladybird controls it so that, living or dead (living in this case) the ladybird guards the larva. I shot it handheld using a Canon Eos 5DsR & 100mm L, an Adaptalux lighting studio (2 white lighting arms and 1 orange) to light the ladybird and a fill-flash with a lumiquest softbox.
