Location
I took this creative shot up in Silver Lake, Utah. The weather was warm and shiny a lovely little hike for a Sunday Shot. I was passing by trees with munchies all over the leaves and decided to wait a little to look for some caterpillars or other insects to photograph. I almost gave up after 10 min. when I looked higher than I could shoot a photograph without any shaking. I am 1.82 meters/6 ft. so I can see a lot higher than lower places. I found these two little guys and saw the possiblities of the outcome of the photograph. My camera I had to reach over my head and I barely saw the digital screen and took about 3 to 4 shots and looked at them when I got home after the hike. This was my best shot and what I really like about it is that unlike most photos the focus is neither on the main subject nor the background and really I believe is a rare unique shot. I really love the colors I caught on this and also saw baby ducks with their mom and took a photo of that on the hike as well. Hope everyone enjoyed this photo!Time
It was a nice evening time the lighting was beautiful over the sparkling lake this tree was near by. The daylight really helped bring in the colors which I love to shoot for. A time would be around 5 pm.Lighting
The lighting was great natural lighting of course, illumination was not a problem on this one.Equipment
I used a Nikon CoolPix L340, lens is built in, no tripod this time, no flash necessary, Used the straps around the camera to dangle it so my shaky hands wouldn't mess up the focus on the shot (since it was too high).Inspiration
Well the geographic magazine always has cool insect shots in a lot of them and I really loved it so It was a goal to take a really nice shot of some small critters and hope to do more in the future. Also various photographers but most of them I don't remember their names because they were mentioned on my chrome cast on that photography thing, people that have chomecast know what I mean. And lastly Bill Churchill hes a local photographer in my state his shots are amazing but most of his photography is landscape.Editing
I used some tools in Adobe light room so the photo got a more deeper rich color. In my camera bag
Well my bag is a starting collection and I hope to get a canon 5D mark III soon heard the new mark IV coming out, mybe even that one, I have a basic 18-55mm kind of lens that always comes in those starter sets, as well as a 55- 200mm lens, nothing too noteworthy. I have a lot of equipment I wish I had but I will just have to wait awhile.Feedback
Use a Tripod that can extend 61" or even more is better, different angles on shots can effect the dynamic range or what your trying to tell the audience of your photo. I use an app called "Sun-seeker" which helps me when I have the best lighting. Have a macro prime lenses, primes give clearer image just because the way they are built unlike those ones that change if you want that extra detail go with a prime lens. 50mm f1.2 if you have good lighting but if not stick with a changeable mm lens with a higher f stop. Manually set shutter speed, shoot continous. Sometimes I experiment on a photograph, for instance I will shoot a photo at a shutter speed of 1/30 I will change the shutter speed or f stop somewhere near something I already have and have a chance for a different kind of photograph.
