Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at my Fathers house where he has a large garden and one part is a vegetable plot. He had not been so well and by the autumn it had become overgrown and the vegetables had virtually gone. The photo was taken in Northern Ireland, Co Armagh

Time

This was middle of September, and it was early in the morning and was a very misty, damp day

Lighting

The photo was taken with the natural lighting which was created by the mist around the area

Equipment

This was taken handheld with a old model Canon 350D and the standard kit lens.

Inspiration

It was my father illness and his inability to take care of the garden and that particular day which was damp, bleak and misty combined with the deteriorating state of his garden gave me the inspiration to capture the scene.

Editing

No processing other than conversion from RAW to TIFF format.

In my camera bag

Now i have Canon 5D and a set of prime lenses from Canon. Tend to keep it down to minimum, and recently have been actually inspired by what can be done with a Camera phone). Tripods are from Manfrotto and i keep a set of Tiffen filters on hand. In general now - i m trying a new philosophy that less is more !

Feedback

For some scenes you just know that it would make nice photo and if you have the time stand back and compose in your mind a shot that you want. Randomly taking photos can be not be a fulfilling experience - but taking time to look first before shooting can really pay off - but i know its not always possible. Tip, if using a camera on a wet, cold ,misty day - make sure the camera/lens is free of condensation when going from a room temperature to such challenging elements.
