"California Poppies in the wild" (Biological name : Eschscholzia californica)
6th April - CALIFORNIA POPPY DAY
California Poppy is a wild flower growing almost all of California during the spring. The petals close at night or in cold, windy weather and open again the following morning, although they may remain closed in cloudy weather.
It was selected as a state flower in Dec 1890, but was made official only in 1903.Its golden blooms were deemed a fitting symbol for the Golden State and is pictured on welcome signs along highways entering California and official Scenic Route signs.
