Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my own living room, because I didn´t have a studio.

Time

As my living room faces west and I don´t have any curtains, I needed to wait for the sun to set. So the picture is taken at 10 pm.

Lighting

I used to soft boxes, Elinchrom D-Lite. One was position on to the right of the camera and the second on the floor behind the model, to bring out the flour from the background.

Equipment

I used my Canon 60d and a tripod. I had to use the self-timer and set it on 10 seconds delay because it was only the model and myself. I initially intended for the model to turn towards the camera when the picture was taken, which clearly did not happen. But going through my shots I realised that we instead made art by accident. Because it wasn´t possible to place the camera in vertical position on the tripod, I ended up with a landscape format.

Inspiration

Norwegian winter storms.

Editing

I shot the photo in raw and did a conversion in Adobe Lightroom. The background was originally white and I wanted to separate it from the powder, so I adjusted the white-balance and did some smaller adjustments.

In my camera bag

A Canon 7D Mark II and a "reserve"-camera - Canon 60D. The lenses I usually use are Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM and Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art. In this photo I used the Canon lens.

Feedback

Since I did this in my own living room, it was a damn job to clean up afterwards. The shoot took about an hour, cleaning up took at least twice the time. It broke my vacuum cleaner, so don´t do this at home.
