First attempt at landscape astrophotography, taken from Rifugio Auronzo near Tre Cime in the Italian Dolomites. It was shot using the Nikkor f-1.8 35 mm prime lens at full aperture with an exposure of 8 seconds and an ISO of 2,000. The exposure was short enough to prevent blurring of the stars due to the Earth's rotation. The glow behind the mountains is from the setting sun. The raw file was processed separately for the background and foreground and then blended. I think it could be improved by exposing separately (longer and at lower ISO) for the foreground and by using panorama techniques to capture more of the sky.

Thanks Lauren! To capture this kind of image well normally requires very good (expensive) kit, so I was very happy with the result. I live quite close to London so I don't get the opportunity to try shots like this very often.
