Behind The Lens

Location

I love hanging out on a warm summer's evening. Usually a few of us photog friends get together to do night shooting. We have a several paper mills in our area. They are smelly (we call it the smell of money) and usually an eyesore, but at night they do look kind of pretty. This photo was taken above the dam and there was a decent amount of wind. There is a walking path along this that we were shooting from. Honestly, it is very pretty below the dam and I love to climb around on those rocks more than walking around the upper half.

Time

My guess is this was taken around midnight in September of 2015.

Lighting

No flash was used. All ambient light.

Equipment

I use a Canon 70D, Tamron 70-300 lens, Manfrotto tripod and gear head.

Inspiration

I love water reflections. Driving by this area at night I had always wanted to stop and shoot it. Finally got off my butt and did so.

Editing

I shoot in RAW so processing is a must. Lightroom adjustments for contrast and a bit of color was used.

In my camera bag

Several Tamron lenses, Canon 100 macro, Canon 1x-5x, remote trigger, a penny for tightening the tripod screw into the camera (or out of), lens cleaners, flash, bug spray, kleenex, hair ties, and a bunch of other little things.

Feedback

Practice, practice, practice. Practice often Practice with different apertures Practice with different shutter speeds Practice with friends Make sure you have a good tripod and trigger (or use the timer)
