A SOOC .....
Wijk bij Duurstede is an old city along the borders of the Rijn-Lek (one of the major rivers in The Netherlands). In the past (17th century) it was a very prosperous city, due to its location. One can see that in the beautiful center of this small city. That a decay came can be seen from the church tower, which has never been build completely (It ought to become higher than our largest church tower, "De Dom at Utrecht"). It has a flat roof and about half his hight which was intended.
Wijk bij Duurstede possesses the only drive-through windmill in the world. It is build in 1659 and restored in 1997. It's called ""Rijn en Lek" because the river changes its name from Rijn into Lek at Wijk bij Duurstede.
The prosperity can also been seen from the old (partly restored) castle.
Now a day Wijk is a tourist resort which very much art shops and artists.
