Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this at the Hawk conservancy in Hampshire, most of my shooting is done out and about, so to have opportunities to learn more about when and where I'm likely to see these and other beautiful creatures are jumped upon.

Time

It was the middle of the afternoon great for ambient lighting.

Lighting

The lighting was all sunlight and in this scenario all about where you chose to sit.

Equipment

This was using a simple set up, my first camera my Nikon D3100 and my first telephoto lense 55-200mm.

Inspiration

I love how these birds look in flight but nothing does justice to the size of their talons until seen in full swing.

Editing

Only minimal tweaking to the contrast was needed.

In my camera bag

My standard day pack is my 70-300mm lense often already attached to my Nikon D7100, if needed my D3100 will be next in the bag with my 18-55mm attached leaving only my 50mm in the bag on its own.

Feedback

I have found over the past few years that speaking to people who work with your chosen subjects (or in the event your subject can speak) speaking to your subjects can give you all the information you may need, If you want to photograph deer, speak to the local ranger/warden, if you want to photograph a racing car, speak to its driver. It really is the best way to learn where, when and how to shoot.
