I have been spending 6 to 8 weeks on Maui in the winter to escape the Michigan deep freeze. A couple years ago my daughter had just graduated from college and I invited her to come with me. One of her bucket list items to do was to watch the sunrise from Haleakala. It involves getting up a 3:30am to make the hour and a half trip to the top of the Mountain. There are usually hundreds of people there but it is a big place so there are plenty of places to set up and have some privacy. Neither one of us were prepared for the awesome raw beauty we were about to witness.... We were well above the clouds so when the sun started to penetrate the clouds everything started to fill with orange, red, yellow, and blues.. It was magical and as the glow of the sun warmed us up, it felt very spiritual and life changing. I had taken several shots and noticed my daughter over to the side with her arms outstretched and looking very much like she was getting pulled into the beauty and spiritualness of the moment. I walked over to her and tears were streaming down her face and she said "This is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. She turned to me and wrapped her arms around me hugging me tight and saying "Thank you Dad!" It is one of the times in our lives that we will never forget!! This picture was not one that I had planned to take but I love it because it shows the emotions and connection at that magic moment in time....
