Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken on site at the models house in Auckland, New Zealand. We were lucky to have a large room to work in.Time
This was taken mid afternoon, as the model and I are not early morning people. and as I was experimenting with lighting, daylight wasn't an important factorLighting
I used a speedlight with a shoot through umbrella to soften the lightingEquipment
This was shot on a canon 600D, a 24-104 f4 kit lens and a canon flash.Inspiration
I have always love the mystery behind low key images, the knowing there is more to an image than what is immediately visible, yet what is seen gives a clear idea to the shape and form.Editing
Only very simple post processing was needed, I converted the Raw file to a black and white image and adjusted the gamma levels. I had a couple of bright spots from the legs of the chair, which I also removed. In my camera bag
I normally apart from my camera in my bag is my prime 100mm f2.8mm lens, my zoom 24-105 f4, 50mm f1.4, spare batteries, a speedlight and I've recently added a small petrol generator.Feedback
I would advise anyone trying something similar to just experiment with light positions, I had two speedlights set up, and I would alternate between them being on, to experiment what the light patterns were.
